Caught between the hyper-way of transference, Portia took time out to visit the Log Cabin. The Log Cabin was the Angelâs enclave, their retreat. There were no co-ordinates and Angels never talked about it, but it lurked in the background, if needed. The only perception of it was it appeared to be red in colour and in an open field. It was different for each of them, every time it was visited, for what was unique was not what it looked like but what was inside.
In the beginning, Angels were sent there as a reward to see their true nature, but more recently it had become a refuge. A sanctuary for when the displacement of energy became too much of a burden.
When Portia entered the Log Cabin she swam, rather predictably, with dolphins. Flores liked to drive a white Koenigsegg through Eau Rouge. Ablus preferred riding wild horses along a beach with Emilia Headey, while Ann-Margret had spent her time eating buckets of shrimp on a Baton Rouge swamp trawler.
As a sign of his appreciation for Noi the Albino, the Old Man once sent a gift, intended for Portia, to the Log Cabin. Flores was there at the time and had just devoured a bowl of shaved truffle ravioli. The gift was an unremarkable briefcase. When Flores opened the briefcase, he was surprised to see a remnant of the Big Bang. Having no regard for things eternal, he simply shoved the useless briefcase under the red two-seater sofa, where it stayed until Portia found it when she vacuumed up an earring that belonged to Isabelle Pasco who had lost it the night before.
Portia had no idea what to do with the contents of the briefcase. Until one day while stranded with Quentin at the Carbon Beach Club as she was forced to listen to him complain about the imminent Killing Zoe. To lighten the mood, Portia detailed her recent soiree at the Log Cabin. Quentinâs pixie ears pricked up at the mention of the briefcase. He wanted to know more about it and pleaded with her to let him see it. Portia was reticent at first as she feared the consequences if the Old Man should find out. Eventually she forgot about it until she saw the rushes for Pulp Fiction where the briefcase first appeared in the âKahuna Burgerâ scene.
